Russian troops nearing Toretsk city limits, says military analyst — video

Ukrainian military analyst Denys Popovych discussed the situation near Toretsk, Donetsk Oblast, and the potential threat of Russian troops advancing into the city in an interview on NV Radio on Aug. 3.
"Sabotage groups sometimes manage to enter Toretsk," Popovych said.
"Although they are typically pushed out, there is currently no substantial Russian military presence within the city. However, Russian forces are very close."
The advance is largely due to the Russian army's significant numerical advantage, which they "mercilessly throw into battle," and their heavy use of cluster munitions.
"This situation greatly increases the likelihood that Russian forces will continue their advance and might eventually enter Toretsk," he said.
"We can now confirm that the battle for this city is either starting or has already begun. It will undoubtedly be a crucial element in the Russian army’s ongoing spring-summer campaign."
The U.S.-based think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on July 28 that Ukrainian forces regained positions near Toretsk.
DeepState monitoring group analysts reported on July 30 ongoing battles near Toretsk, specifically around the settlements of Zalizne and Pivnichne.
The ISW said on Aug. 1 that Russian troops advanced in Zalizne (southeast of Toretsk).
