Russians launch assault on Ukrainian positions in Zaporizhzhya’s Hulyaipole front

Russian troops attempted to storm Ukrainian Armed Forces positions in the Hulyaipole sector after a prolonged pause, Dmytro Lykhoviy, spokesperson for the Tavria Operational-Strategic Group, reported on national television on July 29.
Compared to other frontlines, the Tavria operational area has seen relatively few combat engagements — six in the past 24 hours, Lykhoviy said. Russian forces launched two assault attempts on different fronts, including an advance towards Hulyaipole from the village of Reshetylivka.
Earlier speculations suggested a possible large-scale Russian offensive in this sector, potentially involving the formation of a new offensive group. However, Ukrainian intelligence reports indicate that the Russians continue with small-scale assaults, as the Russian force in Zaporizhzhia Oblast has not increased in size.
The Russian forces "gained audacity" the day before and tried to storm with about one platoon, supported by two tanks and one buggy, Lykhoviy said. Ukrainian forces destroyed one Russian tank, forcing a retreat. On the morning of July 29, Ukrainian forces also struck and damaged two more tanks in the same Hulyaipole sector.
Ukraine's General Staff reported that as of 4 p.m. on July 29, Russian efforts are concentrated on the Pokrovsk and Kurakhiv fronts. There have been 99 combat engagements since the start of the day. In the Pokrovsk front, Russian activity has been highest near Prohres, Novooleksandrivka, Tymofiivka, and Zhelanne.
