‘I focus on my game’ – Ukraine’s Tsurenko on facing Russian and Belarusian tennis players

Ukrainian tennis star Lesia Tsurenko said she doesn’t care who is on the other side of the court and primarily focuses on her own game, when asked about playing Russian and Belarusian players in a Ukrainian Sport-Express interview on Sept. 24.
Tsurenko admitted that these matches have been a real test for her.
"In the past and this year, it has been a real test for me to play against players from aggressor countries. I can't single out any of my opponents. During the match my main focus is on my game. I don't really care who is hitting the ball on the other side of the court. I just do my job on my half of the court,” she said.
Tsurenko has previously spoken about the difficulties Ukrainian tennis players faced while forced to compete against their Russian and Belarusian competitors.
“There haven't been many matches, but I've been winning most of them. I lost the last match, but there were objective reasons for that, including problems with my elbow," she said in the interview.
Tsurenko had an unfortunate loss to Russian tennis player Ekaterina Alexandrova at the US Open.
Earlier, Lesia Tsurenko expressed her irritation with the participation of Russians in prestigious tennis tournaments.
