Ukraine’s Svitolina announces career hiatus after exiting US Open
Ukraine’s top-ranked tennis player, Elina Svitolina, recently eliminated from the U.S. Open, has stated her intention to take a career hiatus, Suspilne Sport reported on Sept. 3.
Svitolina said she is currently not in the best physical condition and needs time to recover.
“I am satisfied with my level of play, but right now, I want to take a break to rejuvenate physically and come back stronger.”
“When I am in peak physical condition, I can challenge the top tennis players, and my ranking will improve,” Svitolina said.
She added that she is uncertain how long her absence from completion would be.
“I’m not sure exactly how much time I’ll require. I’ll follow the doctors’ recommendations. I’ll consult with my team and consider my next steps.”
“I intend to take some time for recovery, and I haven’t seen my daughter in a while, so I’m looking forward to returning home,” she saod.
Earlier, Svitolina exited from the U.S. Open, where she lost in the round of 16 to U.S. player Jessica Pegula.
