UK actor Mark Strong becomes ambassador for United24 to support school reconstruction
British actor Mark Strong, known for his roles in iconic films such as Sherlock Holmes, Kingsman, and The Imitation Game, has joined the team of ambassadors for the fundraising foundation United24, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced during his regular evening address.
Prior to this, the actor had a conversation with the president of Ukraine during an online meeting.
This is not the first time that Strong has supported Ukraine. On his birthday, Aug. 5, he participated in the charity soccer match Game4Ukraine in London, where participants raised funds for the restoration of the Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi Lyceum in Chernihiv Oblast.
Strong will continue working in this direction and contribute to the efforts to restore Ukrainian schools and support educators, the president said.
During their online conversation, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Strong for this crucial support to Ukraine.
“Every day, Ukrainians fight for their freedom and defend their independence. We’re grateful to everyone who amplifies our voice on the international stage,” said Zelenskyy.
“Such powerful support is needed to help Ukrainian children receive a quality education, despite the full-scale war. Over one-and-a-half million Ukrainian children are studying remotely, and our task is to bring them back to school classrooms. I thank Mark for his support of this important cause.”
Strong, in turn, said it was an honor for him to speak up for Ukrainian children in theworld so that they have a better future.
“As a father of two sons, I understand the importance of quality education and the necessity of going to school, communicating with friends, and acquiring not only knowledge but also the skills needed for adult life.
“Ukrainian children deserve to have everything they need.”
In the nearly 16 months of United24’s operation, over $470 million in support for Ukraine has been raised from donors in more than 110 countries worldwide. Among United24’s star ambassadors are singer and actress Barbra Streisand, U.S. actors Mark Hamill, Liev Schreiber, and Misha Collins, actresses Katherine Winnick and Ivanna Sakhno, the band Imagine Dragons, Balenciaga Artistic Director Demna Gvasalia, director Michel Hazanavicius, astronaut Scott Kelly, historian Timothy Snyder, British entrepreneur Richard Branson, country singer Brad Paisley, British adventurer Bear Grylls, philosopher and economist Francis Fukuyama, chef José Andrés, Nobel laureates Paul Nurse, Edward Moser, and May-Britt Moser, and prominent Ukrainian athletes Andriy Shevchenko, Elina Svitolina, Oleksandr Usyk, and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
