Zelenskyy urges U.S. to lift restrictions on strikes inside Russia

The United States should lift restrictions on strikes inside Russia, as this will help defend against guided Russian bombs, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at the Reagan Institute in Washington on July 10 .
Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of proactive American leadership, advocating for immediate action rather than waiting.
He cited a recent Russian offensive in Kharkiv Oblast, halted thanks to U.S. allowing Ukrainian forces to use Western weaponry for retaliatory strikes on Russian military targets.
Lifting restrictions on striking deep into Russia could yield immediate results, Ukrainian President believes.
"Imagine how much we can achieve if all limitations are lifted,” he said.
“We can protect our cities from Russian guided bombs if U.S. leadership allows us to target Russian military aircraft at their bases.”
“We can also significantly restrict Russia's actions in southern Ukraine and liberate occupied territories if American leadership provides us the capability to conduct deep strikes on Russian military and logistical sites in Crimea."
Ukraine has formally requested the U.S. to lift the ban on using American weapons against targets inside Russia, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing its sources.
The U.S. does not plan to lift restrictions on Ukraine’s ability to strike deep into Russian territory, especially after the major Russian attack on July 8, the National Security Council’s Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said.
