Zelenskyy urges Parliament to address Kursk operation, trophy weapons, and foreign fighters

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Aug. 15 called for an
urgent session of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada, as announced on his Telegram channel.
Zelenskyy stated that lawmakers must consider providing
guarantees for Ukrainian soldiers participating in combat in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. According to him, Ukrainian military personnel should receive “absolutely
all the payments and benefits provided for those on the front lines.”
He also added that the issue of trophy weapons captured in
battles must be regulated in Ukraine.
In addition, according to Zelenskyy, the status of
foreigners fighting on Ukraine’s side should be reviewed by the Rada. He
believes they deserve the right to become Ukrainian citizens.
“This should also justly extend to their relatives, to the
families of our heroes,” he added.
The Ukrainian president emphasized that traitors who fled to
Russia at the start of the full-scale invasion, as well as collaborators and
criminals, should be stripped of any ranks and awards they hold in Ukraine.
“And this should be done in a real way — so that the
decision to revoke awards is not just a declaration, but genuinely reflects how
Ukraine regards such individuals,” he noted.
Zelenskyy also stated that all the relevant draft laws are
already in parliament.
