Zelenskyy claims voter confidence despite military crisis

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asserted his confidence in securing victory in the current presidential elections during an interview with Fox News on Feb. 23.
“If the elections were held now, the people would choose me,” he said.
Addressing concerns about election postponement, Zelenskyy clarified that he has not called off the elections, citing Ukrainian law that prohibits elections during wartime.
“No one canceled the elections. The law prohibits holding elections during wartime. This is the law of war. It’s not my law,” the president said.
As of February 2024, recent polling data indicates a strong preference among Ukrainians for Zelenskyy to remain in office until the end of martial law, with 69% in favor, according to the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.
However, Zelenskyy’s popularity saw a decline following the resignation of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhnyi. Results from a nationwide survey conducted by the Omnibus Kyiv International Institute of Sociology from February 5 to 10 showed an average trust level of 64% in Zelenskyy during this period.
