Russia has destroyed most frontline cities in Donetsk Oblast, regional governor Vadym Filashkin said on national television on July 24.
Russian forces have destroyed 70% of the city of Toretsk, which currently has 3,500 residents, regional official Vadym Filashkin said. Over the past two weeks, 2,000 residents have been evacuated.
"People are leaving, but not as quickly as we would like," Filashkin noted.
He also reported that 530 people remain in the city of Chasiv Yar. Delivering humanitarian aid and evacuating people from Chasiv Yar is nearly impossible at the moment because Russian forces are firing on all roads, Filashkin added.
Frontline situation in Donetsk Oblast
Russian soldiers are attempting to advance on Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, and Selydove in Donetsk Oblast, possibly aiming to seize the "vital highway" to Kostyantynivka, Khortytsia operational-strategic group spokesperson Nazar Voloshyn said on June 6.
The Russian forces intensify their offensive operations in Donetsk Oblast, in particular, their attacks in Toretsk-Horlivka direction, where the occupiers were generally inactive throughout 2024, ISW reported on June 23. Russian troops began an assault on Chasiv Yar from the Toretsk direction.
Ukraine's Defense Forces withdrew from the Kanal microdistrict in Chasiv Yar, Voloshyn reported on July 4.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces had regained some positions south of Toretsk, ISW analysts said on July 18.
The Ukrainian military left the village of Urozhayne in Donetsk Oblast on the same day.
The Russian forces captured the village of Rozdolivka in Donetsk Oblast, the DeepState reported on July 20.
