Vatican has ‘secret peace mission’ for Ukraine, Pope Francis says

The Vatican is involved in a ‘secret peace mission’ to try to end Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Pope Francis said on April 30 after visiting Budapest.
"I am ready to do anything," the pontiff said.
“There is a mission in course now but it is not yet public. When it is public, I will reveal it.”
The pontiff refused to comment when asked whether he had discussed the "peace initiative" with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban or Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) representatives.
"I think that peace is always made by opening channels," he said. “You can never achieve peace through closure.”
The Pope met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at the Vatican on April 25. Shmyhal asked for his help in returning Ukrainian children deported by Russia. Pope Francis said that "the Holy See is willing to do this." Prior to that, he stated that the Vatican had facilitated the exchange of prisoners of war between Ukraine and Russia.
On his visit to Hungary, Pope Francis met with Ukrainian refugees in Budapest, as well as Prime Minister Orban and the ROC’s Metropolitan Hilarion.
The Pope called for peace talks between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in October 2022, saying he is ready to meet with both. He has also said that he believes this war to be global and does not believe that it will end soon.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
