US sends equipment to restore Kharkiv's power grid
The United States has provided energy equipment to Ukraine for the restoration of Kharkiv's power grid, which was damaged by Russian attacks, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said on X on May 21.
The assistance was delivered through the USAID fund.
Fifty voltage transformers, nine current transformers, and eighty isolators for Kharkiv's energy distribution system operator have arrived in Ukraine. The provided equipment will "help energy workers undertake urgent repairs to Kharkiv’s electrical grid," said Brink.
After two months of renewed Russian air strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, household and industrial consumers across the country are now dealing with rolling blackouts during peak consumption hours.
Ukrenergo reported on May 14 that controlled emergency blackouts were implemented across all oblasts of Ukraine due to a significant electricity shortage.
DTEK later announced that no electricity restriction schedules would be applied to domestic users.
The Russians have carried out five missile-drone attacks on Ukraine's energy system since March 22. Kharkiv has been practically left without electricity since then, maintaining hourly power outage schedules.
