Democratic representatives are considering replacing
President Joe Biden as their candidate after his “disastrous” debate
performance against Republican Donald Trump, Politico
reported on June 28.
Three analysts close to three potential Democratic presidential
candidates said they were “bombarded with text messages” during the debate. One
of these sources said that they had been approached by their candidate about
running as an alternative to Biden.
Another Democratic adviser claimed that “at least half a
dozen key Democratic Party donors” allegedly texted him about the “disaster”
and urged the party to “do something.” At the same time, this source
acknowledged that a replacement is “unlikely” unless Biden himself decides to
drop out of the race.
In addition, one of Biden’s biggest supporters said that he
should “end his campaign.” He also called Biden’s speech “the worst in history”
and added that it was so bad that no one would pay attention to Trump’s lies.
“He looked bad in terms of his message, in terms of
substance, in terms of counterarguments, in terms of presentation, bad in terms
of non-verbal means,” said a senior adviser to senior Democratic Party
officials.
“There was not a single bright spot for him in this debate.
The only positive thing is that it happened in June, not October.”
Politico notes that people who complained about Biden’s
speech believe that only Biden himself can solve the problems. Biden’s campaign
headquarters responded to the criticism and called the current president “the only
person who has ever beaten Donald Trump.”
On the night of June 28, a debate was held in the United States between incumbent US President
Biden and his Republican rival Trump. It was their first meeting at a
televised debate since 2020.
The American media wrote that Trump’s statements were full of manipulations, inaccurate facts, and outright lies that the moderators of the debate could not effectively and quickly refute, while Biden spoke in a quiet and hoarse voice due to a cold, which, amid of sometimes confusing statements and wording, only worsened his positions.
