UN Secretary-General ‘strongly condemns’ Russian overnight drone and missile attacks on Ukraine

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned Russia's Dec. 29 drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, towns, and critical infrastructure, the Secretary-General representative, Stephane Dujarric, said at a UN Security Council Meeting.
Guterres stressed that the attack is a violation of humanitarian norms and called for an immediate halt.
The Secretary-General also expressed concern about the high number of civilian casualties and the destruction of homes and infrastructure as a result of the attacks.
Ukraine and a coalition of other countries requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council over the massive strike by the Russians on Dec. 29, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
Russia launched a mass missile and drone attack against Ukraine overnight on Dec. 29. Explosions rang out in many larger cities, such as Kyiv and Dnipro, and smaller ones, such as Konotop.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, said that air defense forces shot down 87 cruise missiles and 27 Shahed drones, out of 158 missiles and over 30 Shahed suicide drones in total.
