Ukrenergo imposes emergency power cuts across Ukraine, 3 oblasts excluded
Emergency power outages are being introduced throughout Ukraine on June 2, except for Volyn, Zakarpattya, and Lviv oblasts, due to the difficult situation in the grid, and will last from 9 a.m. throughout the day, Ukrenergo reported.
Emergency power outages are being applied to both industrial and household consumers.
The reason for the blackouts is the difficult situation in the power system caused by the Russian army's attack on a power transmission system network facility.
Earlier, Yasno energy company CEO Serhiy Kovalenko announced the introduction of emergency blackouts on his Facebook page.
"Morning. Emergency outages across the country... schedules are not in effect. Be careful," he wrote.
Deficit in the power system and rotating blackouts in Ukraine
Since March 22, Russia has carried out five missile and drone attacks on Ukraine's power system. Due to the damage, Ukrainian power plants cannot produce as much electricity as before the attacks, Ukrenergo said.
Controlled emergency blackouts were introduced in all regions of Ukraine on May 14 due to a significant electricity shortage.
On May 20, Ukrenergo reported that all major thermal and hydroelectric power plants in Ukraine were damaged by Russian strikes.
The company urged consumers to shift the use of powerful electrical appliances to daytime hours, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
