Ukrainian President urges all refugees to return when skies are safe
Leaders of some Western countries want to keep those Ukrainian refugees who are employed and contribute through taxes and repatriate those who receive social benefits, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on national television on Jan. 3.
Ukraine has regularly raised the issue of refugees, but most Western politicians are reluctant to take a public stance on the issue because their economies depend on Ukrainian labor and differentiate between working and non-working Ukrainians.
"I will encourage all refugees to return, not just those who are not working," once the allies provide "a little more air defense," Zelenskyy said.
On Dec. 24, Spanish newspaper El País reported that the Ukrainian government was advocating for the end of EU aid to Ukrainian refugees and a ban on consular services for men of conscription age, aiming to repatriate 10 million war refugees.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
