Ukrainian military forced to ‘carefully distribute their ammunition’ amid growing shortages - White House
Ukrainian military "cautiously distribute their ammunition," facing shortages, and Russian forces try to take advantage of this situation, White House National Security spokesman John Kirby said during a briefing on Jan. 6.
“We know that soldiers on the battlefield — on the battlefront are running low on certain types of ammunition,” Kirby said. “ We know that air defense is going to be a key inventory item for them going forward.”
Russian forces, aware of this situation, continue to launch attacks using drones and missiles, hoping to exhaust Ukraine's remaining air defense capabilities, which have not been replenished.
Ukrainian commanders also must make tough decisions about which systems to use, considering the limited influx of new military aid. In the context of discussions surrounding the situation near Avdiivka, he suggested that Russian forces seek to exploit it for logistical purposes in operations in the Donbas region.
The lack of additional support from the United States for Ukraine not only creates difficulties for Ukrainian forces on the front lines but also enables Russian targeting of defense facilities and civilian objects within the country. Due to Republican opposition, a bill providing supplementary aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan failed to pass in the U.S. Senate, prompting sharp criticism from President Joe Biden.
