Ukrainian offensive puts pressure on Russian forces near Bakhmut, says military officer

Ukrainian forces have gained ground near Bakhmut, putting pressure on the Russian flanks in that area, Serhiy Cherevatyi, spokesperson for the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said on national television on July 2.
"We have advanced on the Bakhmut axis," he said.
"There is combat work on the flanks, pressure on the enemy. After a detailed analysis and verification, we will provide detailed data on the territory that has been liberated.”
Cherevatyi said that 23 combat engagements took place in the Bakhmut area over the past day. The Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to eliminate116 Russian troops and wounded almost the same number.
According to him, Russian troops tried to storm the Ukrainian army's positions in the Lyman-Kupyansk sector of the front 10 times.
"On the Lyman-Kupyansk axis, in particular in the area of Nevske and Dibrova, they are using more or less conventional tactics, i.e. conducting reconnaissance and artillery strikes, there are no more Wagneresque 'fodder assaults,'" Cherevatyi said.
"They are trying to attack our positions in groups of up to a platoon."
At the end of June, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reported that the Armed Forces were continuing their offensive on the Bakhmut, Melitopol and Berdyansk axes, advancing 1,300 meters toward Berdyansk.
Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar explained that Ukraine's troops had not yet entered Bakhmut due to the peculiarities of that sector, which complicates its liberation – a large number of engineering fortifications and strongholds occupied by the adversary.
