An ID card of a Ukrainian border guard saved his life in Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported on Facebook on May 15.
The incident occurred on the outskirts of Vovchansk, where,
a Ukrainian soldier with the call sign Tykhon sustained multiple injuries in a
close combat with the enemy.
Several bullets went through him, breaking the bones of both
legs, but one bullet that could have been fatal was blocked by his military ID.
“His fellows managed to evacuate him quickly and now the
soldier’s life is not in danger,” the message reads.
Russia’s offensive in Kharkiv Oblast
Russian forces tried to breach Ukrainian defenses near Vovchansk
in Kharkiv Oblast, but Ukrainian forces repelled the attacks, Ukraine’s Defense
Ministry reported.
The Russians also heavily shelled border towns.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a new wave
of counteroffensive actions by Russian forces in the area, stating that Ukraine
will reinforce its troops on the Kharkiv front.
As of the evening of May 10, there are ongoing battles for
populated areas in the “gray zone,” according to Ukraine’s General Staff.
The White House indicated that Russian forces are preparing
for a “larger” offensive on Kharkiv.
Russian forces resumed assault operations near the village
of Hlyboke on the morning of May 11, media sources reported.
Russian troops in Kharkiv Oblast are localized in the “gray
zone” and are not expanding, Nazar Voloshyn, a spokesperson for the Khortytsia
operational and strategic troop grouping, said during a TV interview on May 11.
The DeepState monitoring group claimed on May 12 that
Russian forces occupied several villages in the border areas of Kharkiv Oblast.
In order to save the lives of soldiers, positions were
changed near the village of Lukyantsi in Kharkiv Oblast, the General Staff of
the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced on May 14.
In some areas in the north of Kharkiv Oblast, Ukrainian
troops had moved to more favorable positions as a result of the Russian
assault, the General Staff later added.
The city of Vovchansk was almost completely destroyed as a result of constant shelling by the Russians, the Oblast Military Administration said on May 14. The situation in the settlement is critical.
