Ukrainian Armed Forces hold more than half of Vovchansk, local governor says

The Ukrainian Armed Forces control about 60% of Vovchansk in Kharkiv Oblast, but the Russian army continues its assaults, said Kharkiv Deputy Governor Roman Semenukha on national TV on May 20.
“We are under constant shelling," he said. "The enemy continues assault actions, mainly focused on areas of Lypky and Vovchansk."
Semenukha added that the Russians used multiple guided aerial bombs on Lypky on May 20.
“The enemy keeps trying to push Ukrainian Armed Forces out of the city," he continued. "But the Armed Forces control more than half of Vovchansk, so Russian assaults do not stop."
He noted that fighting in the Kupyansk sector stopped in the morning.
“Today, Ukrainian Armed Forces are conducting their own assault operations in certain areas to improve their positions," the deputy governor concluded. "Attacks on the border also continue in Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv, and Chuhuiv districts."
Russian offensive in Kharkiv Oblast
On May 10, Russian forces attempted to breach Ukraine's defenses near Vovchansk in Kharkiv Oblast, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. Ukrainian forces successfully repelled the attacks.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russian troops had launched a new counteroffensive in the area.
Monitoring groups noted that several villages in northern Kharkiv had been occupied.
Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, described the situation in Kharkiv Oblast as "escalating." He stated that Russian troops had extended the active combat zone by 70 km.
