Ukraine within its rights to project force into Russian territory – London
As it’s defending itself from Russian armed
aggression, Ukraine has a “legitimate right” to defend itself and can “project
force” beyond
its borders, UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said at a press conference
on May 30.
Cleverly was responding to a question from Sky News regarding Russia announcing it has shot down eight hostile drones over Moscow earlier that day.
He said he "will not speculate about the nature of the attack", but added that Ukraine has a "legitimate right to defend itself".
"It has the legitimate right to do so within its own borders of course, but it does also have the right to project force beyond its borders to undermine Russia's ability to project force into Ukraine itself," Cleverly said.
The secretary stressed that "legitimate military targets" beyond Ukraine's borders are part of its self-defense. "We must acknowledge this," he said.
Earlier on May 30, Russia attacked Kyiv with kamikaze drones – 17th such attack on the capital in May.
A 33-year-old woman was killed and nine people were wounded in Kyiv city as a result of enemy strikes on May 30. Four more people were injured in Kyiv Oblast, said Ivan Vyhivskyi, head of the National Police in Kyiv.
