Presidential Office warns of fake emails impersonating Budanov

Scammers are sending fake emails posing as Ukraine’s presidential office chief Kyrylo Budanov, officials warned, urging people to verify senders and avoid trusting suspicious messages on Apr. 20.
“Recently, such a letter was received by Yurii Klyufas, president of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. It contained a request purportedly from the head of the President’s Office to ‘provide active media and information support’ for the return of Ukrainian citizens to their homeland,” the Office of the President said.
It said the letter was sent not from an official address but from an email account created on the Proton service: office.apu.gov.ua@proton.me.
The letter bore a signature that does not belong to Budanov, the President's Office said.
It added that information about the cyber fraud has been passed to law enforcement.
On March 25, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov warned that unknown individuals had recently been attempting to obtain information from Ukraine’s international partners and members of the diplomatic corps in his name.
“In recent days, attempts have been recorded to contact people on my behalf from unknown numbers. Unidentified individuals are presenting themselves under my name and contacting international partners, the diplomatic corps and colleagues with various requests, trying to obtain information,” Umerov said.
Umerov stressed that these messages have no connection to him or to official activities and urged everyone to follow information hygiene and verify sources.
