A massive fire broke out at the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, after an overnight drone attack, local residents and Ukrainian Defense Minister Advisor Serhii Sternenko reported on July 2.
Sternenko confirmed that drones successfully targeted the Kstovo-based Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery. Its design capacity is 17 million tons of oil per year.
This facility is the fourth-largest oil refinery in Russia and serves as one of the key producers of gasoline and diesel fuel for the aggressor country's army.
Monitoring channels reported heavy smoke blanketing the area over Kstovo.
Ukrainian Defense Forces earlier attacked the Kstovo refinery on May 18 and 20, 2026. As a result of that repeated strike, the AVT-6 primary oil refining unit was severely damaged, forcing the plant to suspend its operations.
