Continued threat of attack from Belarus despite strengthened border, Ukrainian Air Force warns

Russia is keeping various types of weapons in Belarus, so a risk of air attacks on Ukraine from there remains, Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force Command, said on Ukrainian national television on Oct. 3.
Ukraine nonetheless did not expect attacks from Belarus at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. According to the spokesperson, there was such a possibility, but Ukraine hoped it would not happen.
"And today we have troops deployed on our northern borders as well," Ihnat said.
“Air defense, various types of barriers, and minefields are being reinforced there. (Nothing is ruled out).”
Russia has anti-aircraft missile systems, Iskander missiles, and aircraft in Belarus, the spokesman noted. However, the number of weapons is reportedly not as large as at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
"But it is still a 'union state', still Belarus," Ihnat said.
“Therefore, we have to draw conclusions and strengthen ourselves.”
Ihnat stressed that the length of the borders and the front line is large, namely more than 2,000 kilometers, taking into account Transnistria, Belarus, Russia, the line of combat contact, and maritime borders.
"This is all front line," the spokesman said.
“And things can come flying from this front line. Therefore, we are not under any illusions, but are strengthening these areas.”
Earlier, the Belarusian Hajun monitoring group reported that the threat of missile attacks on Ukraine from Belarus would remain for another three months. In particular, until Dec. 31, 2023.
Belarus announced the next stage of the country's army readiness tests on Oct. 3. This test involves aviation.
