Ukraine’s prerogative to invite Russia to next peace summit — India

The Ukrainian government alone will decide whether to invite Russia to the second Global Peace Summit, tentatively scheduled for late 2024, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said during a press briefing on Aug. 23.
“This is an initiative by Ukraine, in which we participated,” news agency Interfax-Ukraine quoted Jaishankar.
“So, I think it is an open question. What will be the next steps? Who exactly will come? Will the Russians come, or will they not? You know, this is not a question for us to decide.”
The minister added that it is a "question likely to be resolved by Ukraine."
Jaishankar refrained from commenting on the "peace plan" proposed by China to settle the war between Ukraine and Russia, emphasizing that it is a matter for the directly involved parties.
“As for what China might have proposed, I think we are not the ones to respond, but rather the concerned parties,” the official added.
Indian PM Narendra Modi met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv earlier on Aug. 23. This visit marks the first time an Indian prime minister has visited Ukraine since its independence in 1991.
On June 16, the Swiss Foreign Ministry announced that the next Ukraine peace summit could be organized before the U.S. presidential elections in November.
