Russia and Ukraine have conducted another exchange of prisoners-of-war, with 100 Ukrainians returning from Russian captivity, Ukrainian Coordination HQ for POW Affairs reported via Telegram on April 10.
According to the agency, 80 male and 20 female defenders, including nine officers and 91 privates and sergeants, returned home. They fought in Mariupol, Bakhmut, Hostomel, Chonhar, the Snake Island, the Zaporizhzhya and Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plants, among other sections of the front line.
Among the released POWs were also 24 National Guardsmen, 22 members of the State Border Guard Service, 22 members of the Navy, 21 troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and 11 members of Territorial Defense Forces.
According to Andriy Yermak, the head of the President’s Office, today’s prisoner swap was “difficult.”
He said that almost half of those released have serious injuries, illnesses, or were subject to torture.
At the same time, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced the return of 106 Russians.
In addition, Ukraine has unilaterally handed over five seriously wounded invaders to Russia, including the only woman who was held captive. Kyiv previously made the same gesture on March 24, 2023.
