Ukrainian and Polish Defense Ministers held productive talks — key takeaways
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov has spoken with the new Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Umerov said on X (Twitter) on Jan. 5.
Umerov congratulated his Polish counterpart on his recent appointment during the conversation, informed him about the situation at the front lines and the recent Russian terrorist attacks, and also invited Kosiniak-Kamysz to visit Kyiv.
He thanked his Polish counterpart for Poland's intentions to increase its role in providing aid to Ukraine, and stressed that this step would benefit the security of Europe and Poland’s national interests.
Kosiniak-Kamysz became the Deputy Prime Minister and National Defense Minister of Poland after the new government of the Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, took office on Dec. 13, 2023.
Tusk called on the West’s "full mobilization" for Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and promised to help resolve the on-going blockade of Polish farmers and truck drivers at the Polish-Ukrainian border. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also invited him to Ukraine.
