Ukraine approves Desna multipurpose armored vehicle for Armed Forces

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has codified and approved the new UAT.DESNA multipurpose armored vehicle for use by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the ministry said July 6.
The vehicle is designed to transport infantry and cargo.
The new armored vehicle was produced by a Ukrainian company and belongs to the medium class of multipurpose armored vehicles, similar to the U.S. HMMWV.
The Desna armored vehicle has its own chassis designed specifically for military tasks in difficult conditions.
Its body is 5.35 meters long, 2.7 meters wide and only 2 meters high.
The ministry said the vehicle’s dimensions are optimized for high cross-country capability, stability during sharp maneuvers and low visibility in field conditions.
The new armored vehicle can cross water obstacles up to 70 centimeters deep and reach speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour.
The cabin accommodates a driver and four infantry troops.
With a full weight of 8.3 metric tons, the vehicle can carry a payload of up to 1.5 metric tons.
The Desna armored vehicle was developed to fill the gap between light unprotected pickup trucks and heavy full-scale MRAP-class armored vehicles.
Ukraine’s Armed Forces received 25% more specialized armored vehicles in 2025 than in 2024, the Defense Ministry said.
Most of these vehicles were produced to the MRAP standard, meaning they have enhanced protection against mines and ambushes.
