UK, Poland to build temporary housing for displaced Ukrainians
Poland and the United Kingdom will jointly build two temporary settlements for internally displaced persons in Ukraine, the UK government announced on March 28.
The UK has allocated £10 million ($12 million) to the project, stating that the two “villages” in Lviv and Poltava regions will house more than 700 IDPs.
“For the past year, Putin has continued to target civilian homes and infrastructure, with the Ukrainian people paying a heavy price,” the message quotes Foreign Secretary James Cleverly.
“This new UK-Poland partnership will help bring light, heat, and homes to those most in need.”
UK Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons visited one of these modular housing settlements near Lviv.
The message said that about 6 million people in Ukraine were forced to abandon their homes because of Russia’s full-scale war. According to the Office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees, as many as 8 million Ukrainians left for European countries since the invasion.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
