Russia searching for two armed deserters near Sea of Azov coast
The Russian military is carrying out searches in all the settlements of the northern coast of the Sea of Azov after two deserters fled their units in the town of Urzuf in Donetsk Oblast, Mariupol mayor advisor Petro Andriushchenko reported on Telegram on July 1.
"The Special Purposes Mobile Unit (OMON) from St. Petersburg, which is currently based in Mariupol, finally has a job to do," Andriushchenko wrote.
Russia’s OMON units typically served as armed riot police.
Earlier, Ukraine’s National Resistance Center reported that Russian convict soldiers had deserted near Lyman, also in Donetsk Oblast, killing three Russian regulars in their flight.
