It would be good if Turkey closes the Black Sea to Russian warships — Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelensky hinted on Feb. 25 that Turkey might soon close passage to Russian warships through the Bosphorus Strait.
Zelensky said he had asked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for help in combating Russian aggression against Ukraine.
On Feb. 24 the Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey said Kyiv called on Turkey to close the Bosphorus Strait to Russian warships.
Under the 1936 Montreaux Convention, Ankara controls the Bosphorus Strait and has the right to limit passage through the strait and into the Black Sea.
The Turkish side did not issue any comments on whether it would close the Strait. Previously Erdogan, who wants to maintain diplomatic relations with both Russia and Ukraine, was hesitant to take such a decision.
