Teenager killed, over 160 Injured in powerful explosion in Tashkent
One person and more than 160 others have were injured in a powerful explosion at a warehouse in Tashkent in the early hours of Sept. 28, the BBC has reported.
According to official reports, at least 163 people were wounded, and a teenage boy lost his life due to the incident. Local residents said that a window frame fell on the boy.
Following the explosion, a fierce fire erupted at the warehouse, which firefighters battled for over eight hours. The flames engulfed an area exceeding 10,000 square meters.
The Uzbekistan Ministry of Internal Affairs has initiated a criminal case concerning a violation of fire safety regulations, while attributing the incident to a lightning strike, as the exact causes of the explosion are under investigation.
On Sept. 28, a powerful blast occurred at the airport in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, sparking a fire.
The explosion took place at a warehouse where, according to preliminary information, electric car batteries were stored, which could have triggered the explosion.
