SBU apprehends two suspects for railway sabotage plot and collaboration with Russian FSB

Ukraine’s SBU security service has arrested two residents from Kyiv and Kharkiv oblasts attempting to sabotage a section of the railway line in Poltava Oblast connecting central and eastern Ukrainian regions, the SBU said on March 26.
The saboteurs are suspected of collaborating with Russia's FSB security service and potentially face life imprisonment.
The suspects were caught "in the act" while attempting to carry out sabotage, the SBU said. They allegedly planted an explosive device near the railway track and the power supply systems for trains, intending to activate it using a remote control.
They aimed to disrupt the logistical routes for supplying weapons, ammunition, and fuel to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Mobile phones, which the suspects used to coordinate their actions with their Russian handler from the FSB, were seized during their search.
The SBU has already established the identity of the handler. He assigned the agents the task of carrying out sabotage on the railway during Russia's massive aerial attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure on March 21-22.
Both men were apprehended and informed of their suspicion under Article 28 Part 2 and Article 113 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (sabotage committed in wartime by prior conspiracy of a group of persons).
The maximum punishment for these charges is life imprisonment.
