Ukrainian President to meet his Turkish counterpart in Istanbul

The Ukrainian peace formula is at the top of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s agenda during his March 8 visit to Istanbul to meet his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan, according to his office’s report on Telegram.
The visit was announced on March 7 by the public relations department of the Turkish President’s office.
Zelenskyy will meet with Erdogan in Istanbul to discuss various issues, including the Peace Formula, the organization of the Peace Summit, the safety of navigation in the Black Sea, global food stability, and the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war and political prisoners held by Russia.
Special attention will be paid to joint projects in the defense industry, with Zelenskyy to visit shipyards where corvettes are being built for the Ukrainian Navy and meeting with representatives of Turkish defense companies.
During his previous visit to Turkey in July 2023, the leaders agreed the return of five commanders of the Mariupol garrison, including officers of the Azov Battalion.
The five Azov Battalion commanders had been in Turkey under the “personal protection of President Erdogan” as part of an agreement following the large-scale prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia in September 2022.
Five Azov Battalion commanders were exchanged for 55 Russian military personnel, while the remaining prisoners were traded for a suspected Putin ally and Ukrainian ex-lawmaker, Viktor Medvedchuk, who faced charges of state treason.
