IAEA Director General to visit Zaporizhzhya NPP, Kyiv, and Moscow

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General, Rafael Mariano Grossi, will visit the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) as part of the agency's new rotation of experts, he announced after a meeting with the UN’s Security Council, reported Ukrinform.
He also plans to visit Kyiv and Moscow.
He plans to meet with the plant’s leadership and Russian representatives as the ZNPP prepares for its 16th rotation.
Special attention will be given to the water supply issue caused by Russia’s destruction of the Kakhovka Dam last summer, which affects the plant's ability to draw water from the Dnipro River. Currently, drilling works along the perimeter of the plant are underway to ensure water supply.
Grossi also expressed his intention to clarify the long-term plans of the plant, including potential attempts to restart one or more reactors, noting that this is a matter with profound implications for nuclear safety.
The challenge of maintaining an external power supply for reactor cooling remains a problem and is posing serious difficulties given the ongoing military actions in the region.
When asked about the safety assessment of the plant on a ten-point scale, Grossi said that in wartime, it is subject to change, and assessments vary depending on circumstances.
