Kyiv cat shelter targeted in explosion, at least 7 felines dead, 60 injured – mostly kittens
Unknown persons blew up the Kotobaza cat shelter in the Holosiyivskyi district of Kyiv, the organization reported on Instagram on Sept. 24.
Kyiv police said that seven animals died and that they had opened a criminal investigation.
At least 60 animals were injured, the shelter said.
It was mostly kittens who died as a result of the explosion. Police and volunteers arrived at the scene and are looking for surviving animals.
Many cats fled after the explosion and consequent fire, but later started returning, said the shelter.
The cats that could be rescued were taken to the Zoolux veterinary clinic, where many could not be saved. Three kittens were sent to intensive care.
The shelter added that it is still difficult to calculate the exact losses, as locals adopted the surviving animals.
The fire was caused by an explosion, reported the Realnyi Kyiv Telegram channel.
The woman who took care of the animals had previously complained about the threats and filed a police report.
