A targeted Russian ballistic missile strike on Kyiv's railway infrastructure killed seven people, including six rail workers, Ukrzaliznytsia CEO Oleksandr Pertsovskyi reported on Sept. 1.
Another rail employee sustained injuries and remains hospitalized receiving medical treatment.
Dozens of workers managed to reach bomb shelters in time to survive the blast, with psychological support now being provided on site.
Pertsovskyi stated that the strike caused "extensive destruction," completely demolishing an industrial workshop while emergency crews continue battling localized fires across the facility grounds.
Train traffic was temporarily restricted along two rail corridors due to the damage, though normal operations were later restored.
Earlier reports indicated that falling debris from intercepted Russian drones ignited fires across three Kyiv districts. In the Solomyanskyi district, four civilians were injured, including two children. In the Holosiivskyi district, law enforcement recovered wreckage from a Geran-4 drone containing unexploded ordnance.
On Aug. 31, municipal authorities in Kyiv issued 11 air raid alerts due to incoming waves of jet-powered Shahed drones, leaving eight civilians injured. Russian forces have subjected Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast to near-continuous aerial strikes since Aug. 27.
