Sen. Kelly: Ukraine’s strikes in Russia could shift the course of the war
U.S. Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) believes Ukraine's decision to strike inside Russia could be a game-changer in the ongoing conflict, Politico reported on Aug. 18.
Speaking on "Face the Nation," Kelly noted that 130,000 Russians were forced to flee their homes, and Ukraine's unexpected move may alter the war's trajectory.
When asked about the use of American weapons on Russian soil, Kelly said he is "okay with it" for now, emphasizing that U.S. aid to Ukraine has been continually reassessed over the past two years.
Kelly also suggested that Ukraine's offensive should teach Russians that President Vladimir Putin isn't the invincible protector he claims to be. He stated, "Putin has always tried to present himself as the one who will defend Russia. I think his citizens are now seeing the consequences of what he's done in Ukraine, and they are at some level of risk."
