SBU detains Ukrzaliznytsia employee for alleged FSB espionage on frontline

The Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) detained a regional Ukrzaliznytsia employee near the Donetsk frontline on suspicion of spying for the Russian FSB, the SBU reported on Telegram on Aug. 28.
Russians were particularly interested in the coordinates of Ukrainian strongholds and firing positions around Pokrovsk, as well as the locations of key bridges used by the Armed Forces on the eastern front.
Russia planned to use this intelligence for new combat operations aimed at breaking through to the district center, according to the SBU.
The suspect gathered intelligence by touring the area and obtaining information from colleagues. He then compiled an "agency report" with textual descriptions and potential targets on electronic maps.
The SBU detained the suspect and seized the mobile phone he used to communicate with the FSB. He was recruited remotely by the Russian special service in the spring after posting anti-Ukrainian comments on pro-Russian Telegram channels.
The SBU has charged him with treason under martial law (Part 2, Article 111 of Ukraine's Criminal Code). He is in custody and faces life imprisonment with property confiscation.
