Russian occupiers in Ukraine’s Crimea claim 13 drones attacked peninsula overnight

Russia claims to have shot down 13 aircraft-type drones over Crimea overnight on Aug. 4 – the second time in less than a week Moscow has claimed to have thwarted a mass drone attack on the Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed that
ten drones were shot down and three were "suppressed" by means of
electronic warfare systems. According to the Russians, there were no casualties
or damage from the alleged attack.
Overnight several explosions were reported
to have rung out in Crimea, with especially loud blasts being head in the
coastal town of Feodosia in the west of Crimea.
Crimea has seen a string of alleged drone
attacks on military targets in recent weeks.
On July 30, the Russian Ministry of Defense
claimed that the occupied peninsula had been "attacked" by a swarm of25 drones. According to the Russian ministry, 16 of the drones were "shot
down," and the rest disabled by electronic warfare systems.
Russia typically claims that it destroys
all drones, airborne or seaborne, before they hit their targets. Russia and the
Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine have been regularly attacked in recent months
by what are almost certainly Ukrainian attack drones, although Kyiv typically
denies launching the attacks.
Before the alleged drone swarm attack, on the evening of July 28, an ammunition depot of Russian troops exploded in Cossack Bay in the temporarily occupied Crimea. According to Ukrainian intelligence, the 810th separate brigade of the Russian marines is currently stationed in the area of Kozacha Bay.
Earlier, on July 24, there were explosionsat an air base near the village of Vesele near Dzhankoy, an important road and
rail hub in the northern and central part of the peninsula. There was also a
massive explosion on July 22 at the Oktyabrske airfield, where, according to Russian
media, three tons of artillery shells had been stored.
Also on Aug. 4, Russia claimed that aRussian naval base at the port of Novorossiysk in Russia’s southern
Krasnodarsky Krai region had been attacked by what the authorities said were
Ukrainian sea attack drones.
The port has been closed to shipping
traffic, the Russian authorities said.
