Russian forces deploy reserves near Bakhmut as Ukrainian troops advance
Ukrainian forces are conducting counter-offensive actions both north and south of Bakhmut, while Russian forces are putting up resistance and mobilizing reserves, Andriy Kovalyov, spokesperson for the Ukrainian military’s General Staff, said on national television on July 11.
Kovalyov said Ukrainian forces are actively engaging in offensive actions in the Melitopol, Berdyansk, and Bakhmut directions in the southeast of Ukraine. They are consolidating their positions along the new front lines, launching artillery strikes on identified enemy targets, and implementing counter-battery measures.
“The enemy is offering strong resistance, mobilizing their units, and actively deploying reserves,” Kovalyov said.
He added that Ukrainian forces were continuing to contain the advance of Russian invasion forces in the Kupyansk, Lymanske, Avdiyivka, and Maryinka directions in the Donbas. The enemy is sustaining significant losses, and the battles are ongoing, he said.
Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said on July 7 that Russian invasion forces in Bakhmut had become trapped and were unable to leave the city due to the actions of the Ukrainian army.
Malyar provided an update on July 9, saying that there had been no major changes in the situation on the eastern and southern fronts, but progress had been made to the south of Bakhmut.
