Russian Black Sea ships retain their missile firepower, Odesa governor warns

Russia is likely to keep targeting Odesa and surrounding areas with cruise missile strikes, Odesa regional administration spokesperson Serhiy Bratchuk said on March 31.
“The threat remains constant; we’re chiefly concerned with sea-launched Kalibr cruise missiles,” Bratchuk said.
“(Russian) ships in the Black Sea are equipped with those missiles; in particular, one of their rust buckets – Admiral Makarov – recently replenished its supply of these missiles, and is ready (to launch them).”
Bratchuk also noted the technical specifications of Kalibr missiles: they can reach speed in excess of 800 kilometers per hour, and can change course several times during their approach. This means that Ukrainian AA defenses have to issue alerts in multiple regions, given how difficult it is to predict the actual target of the Kalibrs.
However, while intercepting these missiles is difficult, the Ukrainian Armed Forces often succeed in doing so, Bratchuk said.
