Ukraine holds ground amid 3,000 Russian strikes on Armed Forces Positions in past day
Russian troops fired more than three thousand times at
Ukrainian troops’ positions over the past day, continuing to try to capture
Vovchansk, the General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Facebook on May 18.
“The situation at the front remains difficult,” General Staff
reported.
“Ukrainian defenders are repelling the onslaught of the
Russian occupiers, strengthening our defense and, under favorable conditions,
counterattacking.”
According to General Staff, in one day, Russian occupiers
have launched three missile and 38 air strikes (including strikes with 56
guided aviabombs), used 404 kamikaze drones, and fired more than three thousand
times at positions of Ukrainian troops.
There were 12 combat engagements in Kharkiv sector.
The Armed Forces are trying to push the enemy towards
Hlyboke and in the area of Vovchansk.
Yesterday, the enemy lost there 125 soldiers, 31 units of
weapons and military equipment, including three tanks, six cannons and mortars.
Fifteen enemy positions were also destroyed. The General Staff adds that information
is being updated.
The number of combat engagements in the Kupyansk sector
increased to 11 over the last day.
The situation in Liman sector did not change significantly. The
enemy launched six unsuccessful attacks in areas of Novosadove, Torske and
Hryhorivka.
In the Kramatorsk sector, enemy attempted to break through
Ukrainian troops’ defenses 15 times.
The situation in the Pokrovsk sector remains difficult. The
Russians made 23 unsuccessful attacks.
Preliminary, enemy losses in this sector amounted to 235
killed and wounded, one tank, an ammunition depot, a cannon, a vehicle and two
UAVs. In addition, three tanks, three howitzers, an infantry fighting vehicle
and a car were damaged. The information is being clarified.
In the Kurakhove sector, number of combat engagements
increased to 11.
In the Vremivka sector, enemy made three unsuccessful
attempts to break through defenses of Ukrainian troops in direction of
Staromayorske.
In the Orikhiv sector, Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled enemy’s
assault northwest of Verbove. No positions were lost. The General Staff says
the situation remains controlled.
In the Prydniprovskyi sector, Ukrainian troops repelled four
enemy attacks near Krynky, Kherson Oblast. The General Staff notes that Russian
occupiers were not successful during battles, and Ukrainian defenders did not
allow any losses of positions.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
