Russia escalating offensive around Lyman, Kupyansk in eastern Ukraine, says Ukrainian military

Russian invasion forces are resuming attacks in the Lyman-Kupyansk sector of the front, increasing the intensity of shelling and conducting air strikes, the Ukrainian military’s Eastern Grouping spokesman Ilya Yevlash said on Ukrainian national television on Oct. 11.
The enemy cannot advance along 140 kilometers at once, so is focusing its attention near the towns of Ivanivka and Synkivka in Kharkiv Oblast, as well as near Makiyivka, Yevlash said.
Earlier, Russian troops tried to advance near Novoyehorivka, but "having received a good kick in the teeth from the Ukrainian Armed Forces," they abandoned their plans, Yevlash said.
"For some time we have been observing a kind of lull," he said.
“And now, about a week ago, they started to resume their offensive actions. The first ones were such short isolated incidents, when mostly these Storm Z and Storm assault units were assaulting. Now we are seeing more serious intrusions.”
Yevlash added that Russians are also increasing the intensity of shelling in the Lyman-Kupyansk sector.
The main goal of the enemy remains the capture of the town of Kupyansk, as there is a railroad there and it is an important logistics hub in this area.
Earlier, the spokesman said that the most difficult frontline area is currently the Lyman-Kupyansk sector, where the situation is more dynamic than in the Bakhmut sector. The Russians are reportedly forming 12 assault companies in the Lyman-Kupyansk sector, numbering about 2,000 people.
The head of the Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, Oleg Synegubov, reported that the Russian occupation forces have been trying to form a "striking fist" on the Kupyansk axis for several months.
On Aug. 27, Yevlash said that Russia had deployed about 110,000 troops in the Lyman-Kupyansk area.
