Russia launched over 20 missiles at Dnipro HES in 2024, Ukraine says

Since the beginning of the year, Russia has targeted the Dnipro Hydroelectric Station (Dnipro HES) with more than 20 missiles, Zaporizhzhia regional governor Ivan Fedorov said on April 23.
In the aftermath of the attacks, the power plant sustained extensive damage, according to Fedorov. Ongoing repairs are focused on mending the dam itself, as opposed to restoring the station’s generation capacity.
"Today, the Dnipro HES dam facilitates transportation [across the Dnipro River] through a single lane of traffic; there were previously two," said Fedorov.
He added that state power grid operator Ukrenergo is already singing contracts to carry out repairs on the power plant.
“It's too early to discuss timelines, but everyone is interested in accelerating this work as much as possible,” the official said.
“We are drawing our international partners' attention to the restoration of Dnipro HES because it is one of the priority electricity generation facilities in the country.”
On March 22, Russia launched its most extensive attack on Ukraine's energy system since the 2022 invasion. Dnipro HES was hit by numerous cruise and ballistic missiles, leaving its turbine hall significantly damaged and out of commission.
