Russia attacks grain terminals in Odesa, Chornomorsk seaports overnight – photos
Russia carried out targeted air attacks on grain terminals in the Odesa and Chornomorsk seaports overnight on July 19, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development and Infrastructure of Ukraine reported on Facebook.
The agency also posted photos of the consequences of the night strike.
As a result, the grain infrastructure belonging to International and Ukrainian traders and carriers Kernel, Viterra, and the CMA CGM Group suffered damage, the agency said.
The previous night, the infrastructure related to the grain corridor was targeted and the reservoirs and berths at the Odesa seaport were damaged as a result of the attack.
“The attack on grain terminals is an act of aggression against the world,” said Oleksandr Kubrakov, Minister for Communities and Territories Development and Infrastructure of Ukraine.
“Russian actions are aimed at disrupting grain supply routes to global markets. This terrorist state is not only at war with Ukraine but also with the people of Africa and Asia, for whom this grain is a matter of survival.”
On July 17, Russia officially announced its withdrawal from the grain agreement after an attack at the Crimean Bridge. In addition, Moscow withdrew guarantees of navigation safety in the Black Sea.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent official letters to the president of Turkey and the UN secretary general, proposing a trilateral expansion of the grain initiative.
The Black Sea Grain Initiative, signed under the auspices of the United Nations and Turkey in July 2022 allowed for the utilization of three Ukrainian ports for food exports. Operations in the grain corridor began on Aug. 1, 2022.
An air raid alert was triggered several times across Ukraine overnight on July 19 due to Russian attacks. The invaders attacked Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Mykolayiv and Poltava oblasts, as well as the cities of Kherson and Kropyvnytskyi. In total, air defense forces shot down 37 out of 63 air targets.
The Russians also hit a grain and oil terminal in Odesa Oblast, local authorities reported. In addition, several residential buildings were damaged and an industrial facility was hit, resulting in several civilians being injured, including a child.
