Rosatom ends operations in Czechia
Rosatom, the Russian national nuclear operator, has permanently ceased operations in Czechia, according to a report by Radio Prague International on July 3.
This decision comes more than a year after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Czech branch of Rosatom has been officially removed from the commercial register and its employees have been dismissed. Additionally, the communication agency that had collaborated with Rosatom has also ceased operations, leaving behind its accumulated debts.
Rosatom had previously applied to participate in a tender for the construction of a new power unit at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant.
However, the Czech government excluded the Russian conglomerate from the tender after it was revealed that the GRU, Russian military intelligence, was involved in the explosion at an ammunition depot in Vrbětice in October, 2014.
Until recently, Rosatom’s Hungarian subsidiary had operated a factory in the Czech Republic, serving as the company’s central hub in Central Europe. However, Rosatom itself has not been operational in Czechia for several months.
