Romanian FM Odobescu warns of direct security impacts as Russia's war spills across border
Russia's war against Ukraine has directly affected Romania, the country’s Foreign Minister Luminița Odobescu said at the “Winning War. Winning Peace” conference on Sept. 27, in the wake of reports of Russian-launched attack drones impacting on Romanian territory.
"This is very serious, and it poses a risk to our citizens," Odobescu said.
Commenting on Russian drone attacks on port infrastructure in Ukraine, which resulted in the wreckage of drones falling on Romanian territory, she said, “This is a violation of our airspace."
“The Romanian government has strongly condemned all Russian attacks on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, on innocent people hundreds of meters from the Romanian border.”
Odobescu emphasized that the security situation in the region is deteriorating due to Russia's actions.
"What Russia has been doing in our region lately is outrageous," Odobescu said.
Overnight on Sept. 25-26, Russia launched 38 kamikaze drones at Ukraine, 26 of which were shot down by Ukrainian air defenses. Russia attacked the port infrastructure of Odesa Oblast: the building of the Orlivka-Isaccea checkpoint between Ukraine and Romania, warehouses, and vehicles were damaged. Two drivers were injured.
Residents of Isaccea said they heard loud noises between 2.30 and 3.30 a.m. and saw five or six drones.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
