Ramstein meeting today to discuss how to make up for six months of delay in U.S. aid - Zelenskyy
The April 26 meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein) will tackle the urgent need to resolve issues arising from a six-month delay in military assistance from the U.S. Congress, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported in his traditional evening address on April 25
"Preparing for (today's) Ramstein meeting - we'll discuss, among other things, how to swiftly overcome the difficulties and problems that have accumulated over the past six months while we awaited a decision on American support," Zelenskyy said.
The political decision has already been made; now, what's needed are "the contents of the packages with the necessary weaponry" and logistics, Zelenskyy noted.
He also expressed gratitude to all countries that have made decisions to support Ukraine, as well as to Ukrainian defenders, cities, and communities.
At the last Ramstein format meeting, discussions surrounded the supply of ammunition, air defense systems, and F-16 training for Ukrainian pilots, Ukraine's Defense Ministry said.
That meeting, the 20th held under the Ramstein format, took place on March 19 at the eponymous airbase in Germany.
US military aid to Ukraine
U.S. President Joe Biden signed a bill providing $61 billion in support to Ukraine on April 24, which the House of Representatives had been unwilling to consider for several months.
Immediately after signing, Biden announced that the U.S. would resume arms shipments to Ukraine within hours.
The $1 billion aid package includes missiles for air defense systems, ammunition for HIMARS MLRS, 155mm artillery shells, Bradley IFVs, Humvee armored vehicles, precision aviation munitions, and more, the Pentagon reported.
