Russia sets up non-strategic nuclear drills with Iskander-M missiles

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin greenlighted the start of a new army drills' stage, involving non-strategic nuclear forces, particularly Iskander-M missile systems, the country’s Defense Ministry reported on Telegram on July 31.
Troops from Russia's Southern and Central Military Districts will practice various combat training tasks, including receiving ammunition for Iskander-M missile systems, installing launchers, and stealthily moving to designated areas for electronic launches.
Russia also aims at practicing equipping their air force with specific combat units and flying to patrol areas.
Russian threats to use Iskander missiles
Moscow is "ready for a nuclear war from the military and technical point of view," Putin claimed on March 13, admitting that this is not an inevitable scenario.
"Should the United States conduct nuclear tests, Russia can do the same," he said.
CNN analyst Jim Shutto, who spoke with two senior officials of President Joe Biden's administration, said on March 9 that the United States began serious preparations for the possibility that Russia could potentially strike Ukraine with nuclear weapons in late 2022.
The White House at that time was particularly concerned that Russia could use strategic or tactical nuclear weapons.
Planning scale was unprecedented.
Following CNN, the New York Times also reported that for several weeks in October 2022, the Joe Biden administration was seriously concerned about the possibility of the Russians using nuclear weapons on the battlefield in Ukraine.
Russia has permanently deployed Iskander-M ballistic missiles in Kaliningrad Oblast - these missiles are capable of carrying nuclear weapons at a range of up to 500 km, reports from February 2018 indicated.
