Zelenskyy vows Ukraine preparing new counteroffensive as top brass overhaul aims to improve posture

In addition to defense, Ukraine will plan a new counteroffensive operation this year, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with Fox News released on Feb. 23.
“To defend is the number one task,” he said.
“Then continue our successful story on the Black Sea — we will do it. I will not go deeply into details, but they will get some surprises, I mean the Russians. That’s very important. The south is very important to defend. East where they have more than 200,000 soldiers is also very important to defend.”
“And, surely, we will prepare a new counteroffensive, a new operation. Of course, I’m not saying that we will just stand there. It depends on a lot of things.”
Commenting on the results of the 2023 counteroffensive, the president noted that the slow progress was due to the need to save soldiers’ lives.
“If we lose the lives of soldiers, we will lose everything regardless of the technology. We will lose everything,” Zelenskyy stated.
Zelenskyy dismissed General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, who had been the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces for more than 2.5 years, and appointed Ground Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi to replace him on Feb. 8.
A reshuffle in the country’s military leadership began after that. New heads of the General Staff, the Territorial Defense Forces, the Air Assault Forces, and the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were appointed.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
